Animal Encounters While Running
Through much of the trail running world, dangerous encounters with wild animals are exceedingly rare. However, knowledge of how to deal with animal encounters can give you peace of mind even if you never see such an animal and prepare you just in case you do.
For general guidance, you can check out our Trail Runner’s Guide to Sharing the Trail with Wildlife.
For North American trail runners, we have guides for runner encounters with bears and runner encounters with mountain lions. In reality, you’re far more likely to encounter smaller animals, which is why we have articles outlining first aid for snake bites (in North America) and a guide for running in tick country.
