As things gear up for next weekend’s “Race Across the Sky“, the ultrarunning world appears to be taking a weekend off. Well, not entirely. There are events happening this weekend across the USA, and today we will take a look at a short list of some of them taking place on Saturday, August 15.

We begin in Cameron Park, California, just 25 miles East of Sacramento with the Hotter than Hell 12 Hr / 6 Hr. The sixth race in the 2009 Ultrarunner.net Race Series, Hotter than Hell is run on a 1.25 mile trail surrounding Cameron Park Lake. Aid stations are located at the start/finish of each loop. Lap counting is done manually, although this year they will be testing a ChampionChip system. The best news is that no matter how far you run in 12 or 6 hours, a post race BBQ awaits.

El Vaquero LocoNext up, El Vaquero Loco, a 50k and 25k on an out-and-back course on nearly 100% single track trail in Bridger-Teton National Forest. The trail is very tough and technical, but comes with some beautiful vistas, high-mountain meadows and lakes. The 50k starts at Cottonwood Lake day parking lot and travels to the world’s largest intermittent spring (and returns on the same trail). The 25k starts on the East side of the spring parking lot at the end of Swift Creek Road and runs to Cottonwood Lake. There is nearly 9,000 feet of climb and descent for the 50k, and 4,500 feet for the 25k. 11 hour time limit.

Is that it ? Well, yeah, for this week (we told you it would be a short one). So, let’s make this somewhat of a reader’s week. Let us know what other events are happening around the country in the comments section ! See ya next week, and happy running.

Leadville Trail 100 mile bike ride[Trail Goat Note: While it’s not a running event at all, we’re psyched to be up in Leadville, Colorado this coming Saturday. Some guy named Lance Armstrong will be racing the Leadville Trail 100 mile bike race. In case you missed it, Dave Wiens beat Mr. Armstrong at last year’s Leadville 100 ride. However, if you’ve been under a rock of late, that same Lance guy just cranked his way to third at this year’s Tour de France. Last year’s race was Lance first race and first seven hour ride in three years. Forget Contador, Lance will have his eyes on Weins this weekend… but he might just need eyes in the back of his head. We hope to provide a Twitter update or two during the bike race. (Follow iRunFar on Twitter)]
